First Steps

This will be a long post i warn you. :)

So my first steps at trying to create a diorama. I must say the following.. I have NO idea how to do that. :) I have a basic knowledge of stuff that i got from various guys, posts, books, but i'm still no confident enough how to start.

So instead of wining that i'm not confident i will just start and we'll see how it goes.

So for starters i bought a couple of things:

- Styrofoam
- Knife
- Tape
- Glue - Wood
- Glue - Instant - Crap
- Some tree turf
- Wires

But you'll see on the picture later. :)

So to begin you always have to have a plan first. Without plan you're not going anywhere. So after you got your plan, draw it down, and scale it to a size you are comfortable with.

After you have your scale take your styrofoam and cut out the required shape.

But! Before anything else... Let's have a good enough workplace shall we?

So i have a little desk i bought earlier this year. The trick is to make it a bit paint proof.

I nailed a protective shield to its back.

So now then..

Let's see what the tools of trade are:

Now let's see what i need. I need tree, rocks, turfs, river, clay figures.

My idea is the following. A meteor impact from which a blob like monster cralws out. Pretty simple. NOT. :D

First i need to create a tree. That's not that easy since i never tried it before. The smart people say, use sculpting clay. I tried it with simple clay. Guess what? Smart people don't always lie :D

It looks kind of funny, but never mind that. I still got work to do with it.

To problem is that i don't have paint right now, because that's not cheap. I will come to that later.

So where was i... Ohh yes your plan.

After you have your plan, draw it on the styrophone thing you have like this:

WTF

Then.... start cutting.

I'm serious. Start cutting that thing:

WTF

Slowly make your way into that thing and try to cut out that surface you want. If you want to go deeper or you want to have a deep chasm, then just glue two together and use some toothpick to hold them in place.

I started cutting out my river here. I wont lie, it was a tedious task.

WTF

But eventually i have a nice river.

Now i want a meteor impact. That's not easy as i came to know it.

For that i cut out a piece of the styrophone thing to practice.

That's the best i managed:

WTF

So that's how far i got for now. This was approximately 2 hours with cleaning and stuff like that and listening to music. :)

Let's see some prices:

- I have two pieces of styrophone things: 500HUF
- Wood Glue: 1100HUF
- instant glue ( which is crap, don't glue anything ) : 1000HUF
- Tree turf ( which is also kind of crap as you can see on the picture.. I need something more life like ) : 240HUF
- Tools: SUM: ( knife, tape, cutter, etc ) 5000HUF
- Modelling clay: 1100HUF
- Wires ( for the tress and other stuff ) 600HUF

The tools i bought over time not at once.

I also have to buy paint which wont be cheap like i said. The paint ( one bottle ) costs around 1100, and i need at least 5-6 types of it.

I hope you enjoyed the post if you have ANY questions please ask away i gladly answer.

I know my base is not couthed ( alapozva ) that's because i was told when the material is something like plastic and that it does not suck in the paint then a coughth is not required.

I still don't know how it will be a bit downy ( lankás ) but i will cut out something nice. :)
